Writing an Arabic Instagram Bio for a Home Business That Sells
Someone who lands on your home business account from a post, an ad or a friend's message does not read much. They look at the top of the profile for a few seconds and decide: does this account sell what I want, does it deliver to my city, and how do I order? If the bio and the few lines around it do not answer those questions, they usually leave without asking.
This guide takes a professional Instagram profile apart piece by piece and explains what each part does for a business selling from home in Riyadh, Jeddah, Kuwait or Dubai. It then gives templates written from scratch for four common Gulf home businesses (perfume and oud, abayas, sweets and specialty coffee), hypothetical before-and-after examples, and the mistakes that come up again and again.
The parts of a profile and what each one does
Before writing a single word, understand that the top of your profile is not one box but several fields, and each field has a different job. Mixing them up is the reason most bios end up crowded and hard to read.
Name field and username
Instagram explains that the text a person types into search is the most important signal for search results, that results are matched by text against usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places, and it recommends choosing a username and profile name related to your content, adding keywords that describe who you are, and including a location for local accounts such as small businesses [1]. In practice, make the name field carry your business name plus a word that describes the product, such as "Dar Al Ward | Perfume & Bakhoor", rather than repeating the username.
Keep the username short and easy to spell in Latin letters, without random numbers or lots of underscores, because customers will type it into search or forward it to a friend on WhatsApp.
Category and contact options
When you switch to a professional account, Instagram asks you to pick the category that best describes your business, and a business account offers options that make it easier for visitors to get in touch [4]. Choose a category that genuinely matches what you sell, because visitors read it as a quick hint about the account, and add the contact channel you actually answer rather than every channel possible.
Bio, links and highlights
Inside the bio, a hashtag or an @mention of another account becomes a tappable link [2], which helps if your business runs a second account for large orders or events. Below the bio sit Stories Highlights: collections of your stories that stay on the profile until you remove them, each with a cover and a name you choose [3]. Think of highlights as a permanent menu board: how to order, current prices, feedback you have actually received from customers, and delivery areas.
A four-line bio formula
The bio is a short space and the app limits its length, so do not try to say everything there. Draft it in your notes app first, then paste it into Edit profile and check that it displays in full. The formula that works for most home businesses is four lines:
- What you sell and to whom: one clear line, such as "Everyday and formal abayas in modest cuts".
- What actually sets you apart: something a customer can check, such as "made to your measurements" or "sweets prepared on the day of the order".
- Where and how: city and delivery or shipping area, such as "Riyadh: delivery in the city, shipping to other regions".
- The next step: one action only, such as "Order on WhatsApp via the link below".
Notice that each line answers a question the visitor would ask if they were standing in front of you in a shop. If the bio cannot hold every detail, move the rest to highlights and point to them with a couple of words, such as "details in highlights".
Writing right-to-left: emoji and line breaks
Arabic runs right to left, but a bio usually mixes it with phone numbers, links and brand names in Latin script, and that is where the surprises happen: punctuation jumps to the wrong end of a line, or a number appears visually reversed. These practical habits reduce the problem:
- Start every line with an Arabic word or an emoji, never with an English word or a number, so the whole line renders from the right.
- Put English words in the middle or at the end of a line and separate them with a clear space.
- Use an emoji as the line marker (📍 for the city, 🚚 for delivery, 💬 for ordering) instead of dots and dashes that can end up in the wrong place.
- Type the line breaks in your notes app and copy them across, because some keyboards make it awkward to add a new line inside the bio field.
- Go easy on emoji: one at the start of each line is enough, and more than that slows reading on a small screen.
- Check the bio on a second phone, with the interface set to Arabic and then to English, because rendering can differ between the two.
The two-second testShow the bio for two seconds to someone who does not know your business and ask: what do we sell, where, and how do you order? If they hesitate on any answer, the line responsible for it needs rewriting.
The ordering and delivery details customers look for
A home business loses many orders to one unanswered question: "Do you deliver to my area?" So make ordering information part of the bio itself, not a message you send to each customer one by one.
- Name the city clearly: "Jeddah" or "Kuwait, Hawalli" works better than "we deliver everywhere".
- State the delivery range: within the city only, shipping to other cities, or across the GCC? Write what you do today, not what you plan to do.
- Name the ordering channel: if orders go through WhatsApp, say so plainly and put the chat link in the link field instead of typing the number into the text.
- Give preparation times: "order two days ahead for events" or "evening handover" cuts down on repeated questions.
- Lead with your online store if you have one: if you sell on Salla or Zid, make that the first link and keep WhatsApp for questions.
If you do write a phone number, use the international format with the country code (+966 for Saudi Arabia, +971 for the UAE, +965 for Kuwait) in Western digits without lots of spaces. A local number that starts with a zero may not work for a customer outside your country, and digits typed in Arabic-Indic script may not be recognised by the phone as a number it can dial.
Ready templates for four Gulf home businesses
These templates were written from scratch as a starting point, and the business names are made up. Adjust the wording to fit your product and the way you work, and never list a feature you do not actually offer. The Arabic versions are on the Arabic page; here is what each line says:
Perfume, oud and bakhoor
- Name: "Oud Al Deerah | Home-made perfume & bakhoor"
- 🌿 Oud oils and blends mixed to your taste
- 🎁 Gift wrapping for occasions and weddings
- 📍 Riyadh: delivery in the city, shipping to other regions
- 💬 Orders and advice: WhatsApp via the link 👇
Abayas
- Name: "Sidra | Everyday & formal abayas"
- 🧵 Modest cuts, tailored to your measurements
- 📏 Size chart and how to measure in highlights
- 🚚 Shipping within the UAE and to GCC countries
- 🛍️ Store at the link, questions on WhatsApp
Home-made sweets
- Name: "Hala Al Bait | Sweets & cakes, Jeddah"
- 🍰 Cakes, cheesecakes and hospitality trays made on the day of the order
- 📅 Large orders at least two days ahead
- 📍 Jeddah: pick-up in Al Salamah or delivery
- 💬 Menu and orders on WhatsApp 👇
Specialty coffee (small roastery)
- Name: "Hasad Al Bunn | Specialty coffee Kuwait"
- ☕ Selected crops, roasted weekly
- 🫘 Whole bean or ground for your brew method
- 🚚 Delivery within Kuwait
- 🛒 Order from the store at the link
Before and after examples (hypothetical)
The table below shows hypothetical wording for made-up businesses, to show the difference between a generic bio and one that answers a customer's questions:
| Before | After | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| "Our perfumes are the essence of luxury ✨✨✨" | "Oud blends and bakhoor to your taste 📍Dammam, delivery across the Eastern Province" | A specific product, a city and a delivery range instead of a slogan |
| "Abayas 👗 DM to order" | "Everyday abayas tailored to your size. Order on WhatsApp via the link" | A clear ordering channel instead of a vague "DM" |
| "Delicious sweets 05xxxxxxxx" | "Cakes and hospitality trays made on the day. WhatsApp at the link" | A chat link instead of a local number inside the text |
| "Coffee #coffee #specialty #beans #kuwait #roastery" | "Specialty coffee roasted weekly. Delivery within Kuwait" | A readable sentence instead of a string of hashtags |
The pattern is the same every time: delete the adjectives any competitor could use, and replace them with a specific detail that belongs to your business alone.
Common mistakes in home business bios
- Generic slogans that say nothing: "quality is our promise" or "always the best" tells customers neither what you sell nor where.
- A phone number in local format or in Arabic-Indic digits, or broken up with dots and dashes so the phone cannot recognise it.
- Too many hashtags in the bio: a hashtag in the bio becomes a link that takes the visitor away from your account to a page full of competitors. If you need one, make it a single hashtag that belongs to your business. To decide between Modern Standard Arabic and Gulf dialect in hashtags, see our guide to Arabic hashtags: MSA or Gulf dialect.
- "DM to order" on its own: many customers do not like opening a chat with no idea of prices or timing. Put the basics in highlights.
- Out-of-date information: an offer that ended or a delivery area you stopped serving. Review the bio whenever the way you work changes.
- A duplicated name field: if the name field is a copy of the username, you have wasted the chance to add a word that describes the product.
- Lots of links in no particular order: put the link that leads to a purchase first, then the rest.
Where foyup can help
A good bio persuades a visitor to ask or to order, and the visible numbers on the account are part of that first impression too. If you decide to raise the visible count of your account's followers or of a particular post's likes, this is clearly what foyup does and does not do:
- We only need the public username of the account or the public link to the post. We never ask for your password or any access to your account.
- Before you pay, the package page shows three things: the price in USD, the expected delivery time and the refill period. That period begins once delivery is complete, and if the number dips during it we restore it at no charge, up to what was delivered. It does not cover cases such as switching the account to private or deleting it, changing the username, deleting the post or sending a wrong link, as our refund and refill policy explains.
- After payment you receive an order number, you follow its status on the tracking page or by e-mail, and you can message WhatsApp support with that order number. Any part that is not delivered is refunded.
You can browse Instagram follower packages or Instagram like packages. The service changes only the visible count on the account or post you choose. It does not promise more sales or a place on Explore, and it does not replace a clear bio, a good product and courteous customer service. foyup is operated by Social Developer LTD and is not affiliated with any platform.
Checklist before you save the bio
- The name field carries the business name and a word describing the product.
- The username is short and easy to type.
- The category you picked matches what you actually sell.
- The first line says what you sell, and the last line says how to order.
- The city and delivery range are stated without exaggeration.
- The ordering or store link is the first link.
- Highlights cover how to order, sizes or the menu, delivery, and feedback you have actually received from customers.
- You have checked the display on another phone, with both an Arabic and an English interface.
Two weeks after the change, open your account insights and watch profile visits and link taps. If you are not sure where to start, read our guide to reading Instagram Insights in the Arabic interface. A bio is not something you write once; it is a page that changes as your business does.
Questions about this topic
Should the bio be in Modern Standard Arabic or Gulf dialect?
There is no single rule. Simple Modern Standard Arabic is understood across the Gulf and suits perfume and formal abayas, while dialect feels closer and suits sweets and coffee. What matters is choosing one voice and keeping it consistent across the bio and your posts.
Do the words in my bio help me show up in search?
Instagram says search results are matched by text against usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places, and it recommends adding keywords that describe your business and location. Do not stuff the bio with keywords, though; write a sentence a person can understand first.
How often can I change my bio?
Update the bio whenever a key detail changes, such as your delivery area or ordering channel. Change the name field rarely, because customers recognise you by it and search for you with it.
What should a new home business put in its highlights?
Start with three groups: how to order, products or menu, and delivery. Add a group for feedback you have actually received once it arrives, and never post reviews you wrote yourself. Highlights stay on your profile until you remove them.
